Panthers Fill Two More Spots on Practice Squad
Thursday evening, the Carolina Panthers signed two more players to the practice squad, wide receiver Derek Wright and linebacker Chandler Wooten, bringing their total to 13.
Wright caught three passes for 35 yards in the preseason opener against the Jets but missed some time due to a knee injury. He saw action in the preseason finale but did not record any stats. The former undrafted free agent out of Utah State had a strong offseason and training camp which allowed him to make the team's initial 53-man roster.
Following the waiver claims of OL Calvin Throckmorton, DB D'Shawn Jamison, and LB Claudin Cherelus, Wright was waived. Now, he's back and could be one of those guys that head coach Frank Reich mentioned on cut day as guys who may end up hitting waivers but return and play a role for the team this season.
Chandler Wooten provided depth at linebacker but is more known for his contributions on special teams.
The Panthers have three spots remaining on the practice squad.
