REPORT: Panthers 'Not Expected' to Pursue QB Lamar Jackson

It looks like Carolina prefers a rookie.

There are plenty of options on the table this offseason for the Carolina Panthers when it comes to the quarterback position. However, Lamar Jackson is not one of them.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Panthers are not expected to be in the market for the former MVP quarterback.

The Baltimore Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson on Tuesday, meaning other teams can negotiate and sign him to an offer sheet. Baltimore would have a chance to match the offer sheet and keep him OR let him walk and receive two first round picks in return.

The Panthers are one of a handful of teams that are already reportedly out on Jackson, which everyone agrees is a little odd considering he's only 26-years-old and is one of the best quarterbacks the league has to offer. Arguably the biggest turn off for teams is the amount of guaranteed money that Jackson is looking for. Last year, Deshaun Watson agreed to a new deal with the Cleveland Browns, which saw his entire salary guaranteed at $230 million.

As far as Carolina is concerned, GM Scott Fitterer has remained consistent with his vision of drafting and developing a quarterback rather than pursuing a veteran that would cost a hefty price. It is, though, a little confusing as to why they wouldn't seriously consider signing Jackson when it will cost more than two first round picks to move up to No. 1 in the draft.
