Panthers to Sign OLB K'Lavon Chaisson to One-Year Deal

Carolina adds another pass rusher to the mix.
In this story:

Friday morning, the Carolina Panthers agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth up to $5M with free agent outside linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Chaisson is a former first-round draft pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars out of LSU in 2020. Panthers' defensive line coach Todd Wash coached Chaisson during his rookie season before moving onto Detroit, so there is a connection.

Chaisson hasn't lived up to the pre-draft hype as a pass rusher, logging just five sacks in four seasons. However, in Ejiro Evero's 3-4 scheme he could begin to tap into that potential everyone knows he has. So far in his career, Chaisson has recorded 73 tackles, 23 QB hits, 11 tackles for loss, and two passes defended to go along with those five sacks.

He marks the second pass rusher the Panthers have signed since trading away Brian Burns, joining D.J. Wonnum, who agreed to a two-year, $12.5M deal. The team recently hosted Jadeveon Clowney and Chase Young on visits in hopes of adding more proven talent at the position.
