BREAKING: Panthers to Sign WR DJ Chark
The Panthers are out and about scouting the college talent, particularly quarterbacks this week, but they are also getting business done in free agency.
Moments ago, the Panthers agreed to a one-year deal with free agent wide receiver DJ Chark, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Chark spent the first four years of his career in Jacksonville before signing with the Detroit Lions last offseason in free agency on a one-year, $10 million deal. Unfortunately, he only appeared in 11 games for Dan Campbell's squad as he dealt with a Grade 2 ankle sprain.
During his last season with the Jaguars in 2021, Chark missed 13 games to an ankle fracture. He also suffered ankle sprains in 2019 and 2020, but thankfully neither kept him on the shelf for an extended period of time. If it weren't for injuries, Chark would have been a more sought-after free agent this offseason. He has elite speed, can get vertical, and can create separation early in his routes.
In 2019, he notched a 1,000-yard season, bringing in 73 receptions and eight touchdowns. Is he ever going to be a No. 1 receiver? Maybe, maybe not. But he will certainly provide a big boost to the offense, given that he stays healthy.
