Several Teams Could Be In the Mix for Ejiro Evero

Where the Panthers' defensive coordinator will coach next season remains uncertain.
In this story:

The Carolina Panthers have a GM and a head coach. Now, the next piece of the offseason is puzzle is filling out the rest of the coaching staff.

New head coach Dave Canales informed offensive line coach James Campen, special teams coordinator Chris Tabor, and offensive coordinator Thomas Brown that they will not be retained and are free to look around for other jobs.

Defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero is someone that Canales would like to retain, according to multiple reports. He is, however, still in play for the Seattle Seahawks' head coaching job, interviewing for a second time with the organization over the weekend.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer provided some insight on Evero's situation.

"Evero has emerged as an interesting figure to watch in the next few weeks. He’s on a deal at over $3 million per year to be Carolina’s defensive coordinator but was hired as part of a Frank Reich’s staff now being inherited by Dave Canales. Meanwhile, the Packers and Rams—whose head coaches know Evero well—have openings. They would both have the 43-year-old, if available, near or at the top of their lists. And those places, at least on paper, could better pipeline Evero into a head-coaching shot. So … stay tuned."

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the Dolphins and Giants have requested to interview Evero for their open defensive coordinator position but have been blocked by Carolina.
