Panthers’ Bryce Young, Mike Jackson Might Both Be Headed For Career Years

Panthers star players are bringing the juice to training camp thus far

Training camp is in full swing as the 2026 season rapidly approaches. With training camps, tension and scuffles always come up, whether it's within teams or in joint practices. 

That remains true for the Carolina Panthers, who have been in training camp longer than any other team in the league. Carolina started camp back on July 23rd since they had to prep for the HOF game. 

With even more time in camp before the season, it gives more opportunity for scuffles and dust-ups in practice, and this week has been the apex of that thus far. 

On Monday, the biggest fight of camp broke out. RB Jonathon Brooks was rushing the ball and was reportedly hit hard by one of the safeties, either Nick Scott or Lathan Ransom; both had been reported to be the one to hit Brooks. 

Big fight here. Started when Lathan Ransom tried to hit Jonathon Brooks on a run. Bryce Young took offense. He and Mike Jackson were jawing. An offensive lineman stepped in. Someone got hit in the head.

That’s not the important piece, though, since Brooks is okay. What came after the hit was Panthers star cornerback Mike Jackson getting into it with offensive lineman Luke Fortner, and also heavily jawing with Carolina’s most important player.

Mike Jackson and Bryce Young Had Multiple Arguments at Training Camp

Young and Jackson were seen jawing heavily at each other after that play and throughout practice on Monday. The arguments escalated to the point that Jackson and Young had to have a long conversation after practice, along with Scott. 

Scott commented on the matter and said the conversation revolved around keeping the team safe while maintaining an appropriate level of physicality. The best quote from Scott on the matter was “If practice was all kumbaya, I’d be worried. But it’s not.”

Scott’s on the money here. This is competition at the end of the day, and the best way for Carolina to prepare for the season is to compete at the highest level possible at camp. 

This situation mirrors another notorious training camp scuffle in Panthers history, one involving the same position groups. 

Back in 2015, QB Cam Newton and CB Josh Norman got into a huge scuffle at training camp, which had to be separated by basically the entire team.

Maybe it’s a correlation, maybe it’s not, but the Panthers finished the regular season 15-1 and made the Super Bowl that year. Cam Newton won NFL MVP, and Josh Norman was first-team All-Pro.

Now, over 10 years later, Young and Jackson keep the tradition of QB-Corner animosity going, and if anything, it’s a good sign for the Panthers. 

Competitive spirit is higher than ever in Carolina, and that will only help the Panthers going forward. Young and Jackson are focal points on both sides of the ball and could be in for huge years in 2026.
