Trade! Panthers Move Into First Round to Select WR Xavier Legette

Carolina gets Bryce Young another weapon.

After sitting tight for 31 picks, the Carolina Panthers couldn't wait any longer to get in on the action. GM Dan Morgan agreed to a trade with the Buffalo Bills to land wide receiver Xavier Legette (South Carolina) with the 32nd overall pick.

TRADE DETAILS

Panthers receive: No. 32 (Legette), No. 200

Bills receive: No. 33, No. 141

Earlier in the week, Legette told John Crumpler of USA Today, “I’ve met with the Panthers about four or five times. The relationship, it just keeps continuing to grow. They really hoping that I can make it to the second round. They keep on telling me if I’m sitting at (pick) 33, they’re going to take me.”

Head coach Dave Canales had to throw some water on that conversation when asked about it on Tuesday stating, “Yeah, oh yeah. I mean, it was a great conversation. I definitely said that to him and about… fifty other guys. It’s actually a lead-in question. So, when we draft you at 33, what happens now? And then there’s a bunch of questions that happen after that. But yeah, part of the process.”

Legette was buried on the South Carolina depth chart for the first four years of his career, but exploded for big numbers this past season posting 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns.
