WATCH: New England Patriots Ex Rob Gronkowski Spikes First Pitch For Boston Red Sox
The "Gronk Spike" has now gone beyond the football field after Rob Gronkowski has scored a touchdown.
The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers all-time great tight end threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Boston Red Sox faced the Cleveland Guardians on Monday at Fenway Park. Rather than going the traditional route of throwing a pitch to the catcher, Gronkowski went with his patent celebration and spiked the baseball into the mound.
Gronkowski's decision to go with a "Gronk Spike" for his first pitch was far from shocking, as many described it as a first pitch in only the fashion the future Hall-Of-Famer could.
"Rob Gronkowski threw out the first pitch at the Red Sox game and it went as expected," Jomboy Media wrote on X.
This isn't the first time Gronkowski has been the star of pre-game festivities at a Red Sox game. He, Tom Brady and other Patriots teammates were at the Red Sox's season opener on April 3, 2017, and as the all-time great quarterback was showing off the previously stolen jersey from their epic come-from-behind 34-28 win in overtime against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI, Gronk snatched it out of his grasp and made a beeline for the outfield.
Brady gave chase before eventually tackling Gronkowski on the infield dirt.
Shenanigans always seem to follow Gronkowski, though, it's a part of his allure, and for Patriots fans, it's very much a reminder of when they were atop the football world.
