New England Patriots' Super Bowl Odds: How Low?
New England Patriots fans are obviously hoping it changes after they make the No. 3 overall pick in next month's NFL Draft, but for now their odds of winning the championship next season are stale, stagnant and even headed in the wrong direction.
A team without a franchise quarterback is also a team without a realistic chance of winning Super Bowl LIX. As they were entering free agency, the Pats were a whopping +15000 long-shot to win the NFL's next title game in February in New Orleans. A week into free agency? They've dropped to +17000.
Ouch.
New England's longshot odds mean a $100 wager would net a winning bet $17,000. Only the Carolina Panthers - at +30000 - have worse odds.
Obviously, the oddsmakers are worried about a Patriots' team without a quarterback and underwhelmed by signings that include Jacoby Brissett, Austin Hooper, Antonio Gibson and K.J. Osborn.
New England is just 29-38 in the four years following Tom Brady's departure.
Teams that have seen their odds improve in free agency include the Philadelphia Eagles (Saquon Barkley), Pittsburgh Steelers (Russell Wilson) and Atlanta Falcons (Kirk Cousins).
The Patriots will likely get a positive betting boost after they select quarterback - likely either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels - on April 25.
The San Francisco 49ers (+500) and Kansas City Chiefs (+650) remain the favorites to play in next year's Super Bowl. AFC East odds are led by the Buffalo Bills (+1200), Miami Dolphins (+2200) and New York Jets (+3000).
