Bill Belichick Should Quit New England Patriots, Move to Chargers - NFL Analyst
In this story:

The New England Patriots have issues that may extend all the way to the top of the organizational food chain, with rumors and gossip in part focusing on the 1-4 team's possible future without the legendary head coach Bill Belichick.

"Fire Bill!''? That's the meme. But what if Belichick, rather than being pushed ... jumps?

Former NFL player and Super Bowl champion James Jones says Belichick should leave the Patriots after this season and take over as the boss of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Central to Jones' logic: "He has to find a way to win without Tom (Brady),'' he said. "What have you done for me lately? ... His time in New England, in my opinion, is done.''

Belichick and the Chargers?

Ah, the Brady "thing.'' Indeed, there is now the growing notion that Belichick's greatness is based on the retired QB Brady more than it is based on the mastery of Belichick. (In truth, as the two men have themselves said: Neither could've accomplished six Super Bowl titles without the other, and it's a silly parlor game to attempt to create percentages of credit.)

Mac Jones is not Tom Brady. Maybe that's the fault of his coaching staff, or maybe it's simply too much to ask.

If Belichick Fired? Early List of Patriots' Coach Candidates

Meanwhile, the Chargers, in terms of overall success, have nothing on today's Pats. But what about their personnel? And what about their head coach Brandon Staley?

Staley doesn't even get mentioned here. Nor does anyone else in charge with the Chargers, all of whom might have to step aside to clear a path for Belichick if this ever really became an option.

But this much of Jones’ argument is faulty: He states that unless Belichick wins a Super Bowl without Brady, his reputation as a truly great coach will be in question. That's a silly TV hot take; Belichick may not be in New England forever. But those Super Bowl rings? "Forever'' is exactly what they represent.
