Report: LB Brandon King likely out for season with torn quad, Ben Watson in concussion protocol
New England Patriots linebacker and core special teams player Brandon King suffered a torn quadricep Thursday night in the team's preseason game vs. the Carolina Panthers and will likely miss the entire 2019 season, according to The Boston Globe's Jim McBride. Tight end Ben Watson, who took a vicious hit to the head by Panthers safety Eric Reid in the first half of the game, is in concussion protocol.
New England took a lot of blows Thursday night, as King, Watson, Nate Ebner, Gunner Olszewski, Kyle Van Noy, and Damien Harris all left the game at some point in time because of injuries. King seems to have suffered the most significant injury out of all of them which will now free up a roster spot for players like Calvin Munson or Christian Sam to make the 53-man roster.
Luckily for Watson, he has about five weeks to recover from his concussion, as he will be serving a four-game suspension to begin the regular season.
