The more things change in Foxborough, the more they're staying the same.

New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo appears to be fine with that approach, offering a peaceful reaction to the transactional proceedings in his first public comments since his group missed out on premier aerial free agent Calvin Ridley.

"(I'm) obviously disappointed that Ridley went in a different direction, but, hey, we’re good,” Mayo mused at the NFL owners' meetings in Florida, per Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal. "I like the direction that we’re going.”

Ridley, formerly of Jacksonville, opted to move onto the Tennessee Titans, denying the Patriots one of the most sought-after receivers on the veteran market. Since the Ridley rejection, New England has mostly stuck to the familiar by re-signing Kendrick Bourne and Jalen Reagor while adding K.J. Osborn from abroad.

Beyond the receiver slots, the 2024 depth chart will also feature the return of Kyle Dugger, Hunter Henry, Anfernee Jennings, Michael Onwenu, and Josh Uche, all of whom played major roles in last year's toil. Critics could chide New England for sticking with the staples of a four-win group but Mayo is enthused by what they have to offer.

“I think the most important thing for us is to get our people back here, right?” Mayo rhetorically asked, per Giardi. “We sign our players, the Mike Onwenus of the world. Look, we have some good players that we want to keep and that’s kind of part of the culture that we want to build.”
