'My CTE Acting Up; F*** Y'all!' Antonio Brown's Latest Cry for Help
At some point, derision isn't the answer. But either is delusion. And right now, it seems that former star NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is tormented by both.
Brown, who had a stint with the New England Patriots as part of what once was a stellar career, has spend recent hours sounding off on Twitter, arguing with a handful of reporters while objecting to being labeled "crazy'' ... all the while still buried in problems that are certainly legal and problems that are certainly financial and, to those who care about him, problems that seem psychological and behavioral.
Finally, after a series of comically angry tweets, Brown, now 35, may have opened up a window into his status.
"My CTE acting up F*** all y’all whoever played on my name," he tweeted.
Brown's actions have ranged from the illegal to the outrageous and everywhere in between. He's been in frequent conflict with friends who have tried to help him (with Tom Brady at the top of that list) and he's been in conflict with everyone else, too, from romantic partners to potential employers to law enforcement officials.
Brown is in part objecting to reports that there are warrants out for his arrest. But there indeed are, and his inability to deal with that - and to instead go to social media in an attempt to defend himself - is at the very least misguided ...
And at another level, truly frightening to imagine when and where this downward spiral ends.
Making fun of Antonio Brown seems wildly inappropriate. But whether it truly is an issue of dealing with CTE or of dealing with problemsthat were haunting him even when he was among the NFL's greatest stars, here's hoping that Brown will find a way to accept the help he has been offered ... the help he needs.
