The New York Jets are making noise. The New England Patriots are keeping quiet.

The news is everywhere now, as top free agent Dalvin Cook is on his way to visit the Jets, a weekend session that New York hopes ends in another add to their Aaron Rodgers-led revamped roster.

New England, along with the Jets and the Bills and the Dolphins, have all been tied in some way to the released Vikings star. And what does Patriots boss Bill Belichick say about it, especially in the wake of an ESPN report that Cook is “in talks with the Patriots about setting up a possible visit''?

“I’m not going to talk about the players who are not on our team,” Belichick said. “That’s a long-standing policy that I’ll continue to stick with.”

That policy is a sound one, Patriots fans can argue ... as long as the cogs are turning behind the scenes to find a cap-smart way to add Cook. Sources tell us he is seeking a $10 million APY contract as Cook himself has talked about taking his time to make his "my life'' decision.'' Rodgers this week adjusted his contract in a way that gives the Jets exactly that much. So in theory, the Jets might get the visit and get the player, with Cook never being allowed to "leave'' the building'' without a signature on a deal.

The Patriots have on other occasions essentially conceded that they have interest in Cook, who rushed for four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. ... and is a four-time Pro Bowler who could make a big difference in winning and losing in the AFC East.
