Patriots Ex Sony Michel Reacts to Death Rumor
Sony Michel’s NFL career is over, as the former New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl-winning running back recently opted to retire.
But his life? It’s doing just fine, contrary to an unfortunate social media post on Monday that announced his death.
“Fake news,” Sony tweeted in response … which pretty much counts as proof that Michel, at age 28, is alive and well.
A Twitter user going by the name of @BeatintheBookie posted that Michel had been killed in a motorcycle crash.
The report of course highlights the journalistic danger of “trying to be first” … especially when that effort comes from somebody who is. Or actually a journalist.
@BeatintheBookie conceded that in an apology and an explanation on his Twitter account.
"My sources were incorrect I guess. It was an error to post regardless. Glad to hear he is still with us. Last time I try to report any news. Sorry guys," he said.
Michel moved into retirement, the 2018 first-round pick announcing he’s done after a five-year NFL career in which he rushed for 3,243 yards and 18 touchdowns while helping both the Patriots and the Rams win Super Bowl titles.
