Veteran defensive lineman Michael Bennett, who was traded to the New England Patriots this offseason, has been suspended by the Patriots for one week for conduct detrimental to the team, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Giardi.

Bennett gave a statement to ESPN's Jordan Schulz explaining why he was suspended

“On Friday, I had a philosophical disagreement with my position coach that has led to my suspension," Bennett said. "I apologize to my teammates for any distraction this may have caused.”

Bennett has had a less than inspiring start to his tenure with New England - he has seen a steady decrease in his play time over the past six weeks, playing 55% of the team's defensive snaps in Week 1 to just 22% last week against the Giants.
