5 Free Agent Targets For Patriots' Offense
The New England Patriots may be devoid of talent on offense, but with new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, there are steps taking place to change that.
While the AFC East bottom-dwellers have the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, there are free agents to be signed in March that could help Van Pelt's system hit the ground running when the new season begins.
Not all of them will be too expensive, either.
Jamal Agnew
Weapons. The Patriots desperately need weapons on the field that can move the ball with ease.
Agnew isn't a top free-agent receiver, but his running and route-running abilities could be a massive help for an offense that will have a rookie quarterback at some point next season.
He'll also come relatively cheap compared to the top wideouts in free agency like Tee Higgins or Mike Evans.
Curtis Samuel
Speaking of weapons, if the Patriots believe they need more than simply one additional receiver, a competent outside guy like Samuel would be helpful. Sure, the team has plenty of tall wideouts who have done next to nothing since coming to Foxboro, but Samuel is a competent veteran - something the Pats certainly don't have.
Ryan Tannehill
The best way to integrate a rookie quarterback into any franchise is to have a competent veteran behind him or to simply start in front of him early on.
Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Brock Purdy, and Jordan Love all went through that. They've all either been to the Super Bowl or won a playoff game in the last two seasons.
Signing a veteran like Ryan Tannehill would make a lot of sense for New England because it'll allow the newcomer to grow behind a quality leader, and set themselves up for success.
Tony Pollard
Do the Patriots have plenty of running backs? Sure.
Could Pollard be used in the passing game more than any other free-agent running back? Absolutely.
Pollard is a year removed from his ACL surgery which means he should be relatively close to 100 percent - something he simply wasn't all of 2023. While the Cowboys might be looking into new ideas for their RB room, the Patriots might just take a flier out on one of the intriguing free agents this offseason.

Mekhi Becton
Both of the Patriot's starting tackles are free agents so reshuffling the position might not be such a bad idea.
Becton may be considered a bust as a former first-round pick who couldn't stay healthy, but he provided some solid tape last season - his first full year in three seasons.
He could be a quality swing tackle that the Pats use and hope to mold into an everyday type of starter.
