Missed Targets: Patriots Biggest Draft Mistakes?

The New England Patriots have not had the best of luck when it comes to drafting wide receivers and tight ends over the past five years.
In this story:

The New England Patriots are back in the market for a wide receiver which may be surprising to some based on the draft capital spent on improving the position as of late.

"Over the past five years, the Patriots have used four Day 1 or Day 2 picks on either receivers or tight ends," Pro Football Focus (PFF) said on the Patriots' biggest NFL Draft mistake. "They've combined for a total of 84 catches for 900 yards and seven scores in their careers with New England."

Those last picks include the likes of Tyquan Thorton, Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene, and N'Keal Harry.

Harry being the highest picked of all, the 2019 No. 32 overall pick played just three seasons in New England, recording 57 receptions for 598 yards and four touchdowns before he was traded to the Chicago Bears.

Despite the multiple recent misses at acquiring additional pass-catchers, it shouldn't be a deterrent for the Patriots to target drafting one if a worthy prospect is available.

Yet, if the Patriots can find that one receiver, it could help be the difference between making the playoffs or missing out completely.

With the NFL Draft months away, New England has plenty of time to scout prospects or even make a trade to acquire a veteran.
