Should New England Patriots Fans Keep Believing? Bill Belichick Reveals Answer
Without beating around the bush, the New England Patriots have had a brutal start to the 2023 NFL season.
Not only have the Patriots fallen to 1-3 for the third consecutive season, but the way in which they've done so has been incredibly demoralizing. In their first two games against the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins, the Patriots fought back from big early deficits, but were unable to finish the job. After a much-needed win against the New York Jets in Week 3, Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys marked a new low as New England lost 38-3, the most lopsided defeat under longtime coach Bill Belichick.
With the team off to a rough start once again, fans are understandably in a pessimistic state of mind. Belichick acknowledged that the results haven't been what the team wanted, but encouraged fans to not lose hope yet.
“We’ve played four games: three games we turned the ball over and lost, one game we didn’t turn the ball over and didn’t get sacked and won," Belichick said Monday on WEEI's The Greg Hill Show. "I think we know what the formula is, we’ve just got to do a better job of it. What we can do is keep working hard, keep fighting, and improve in the areas we need improvement and that’s what we’re going to try to do.”
Belichick is correct in that in the game the Patriots won, they managed to play a clean game, avoid the turnover bug etc. However, the team has shown that it has massive issues, particularly on offense, and the injuries suffered on defense in Sunday's loss don't make the situation any better.
If the Patriots are to turn their season around, though, then a six-time Super Bowl-winning coach would be the one to trust.
