As OTAs wind down New England Patriots rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez is already making a strong impression.

The New England Patriots are already seeing flashes from their rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez as OTAs come to a close. The Oregon defensive back is turning heads on social media with his freaky ball skills.

The Patriots' social media team released a video Wednesday morning highlighting a drill where Gonzalez ran out and was thrown a ball. While most cornerbacks would use two hands to secure an interception, the rookie went up with one hand and made an incredible grab.

Not only is Gonzalez turning the heads of the social media team, but he is even impressing his teammates, like safety Kyle Dugger.

“Athletic. Very athletic," Dugger said of Gonzalez. "It’s pretty effortless just the way he does everything. The way he moves in and out of breaks, he runs easy. He just looks very light, very fluid. He’s very easy to see.”

After using a rotation of rookies Jack Jones and Marcus Jones opposite Jonathan Jones for most of 2022, the Patriots hopefully found their long-term solution. Gonzalez is already seeing reps with the No. 1 unit on defense, as he was seen lining up opposite of Jones on the outside, with Jalen Mills in the slot.

After a few years of attrition in the cornerback room, which saw players like Stephon Gilmore and J.C. Jackson, depart New England without truly being replaced, the Patriots are already seeing good signs that Gonzalez will be a mainstay in the secondary.
