Tyler Scott Reveals Patriots Coach Connection: NFL Draft
Could the New England Patriots spend a premium NFL Draft pick on a wide receiver? Yes, it seems likely at this point, as their need at wideout is glaring. This is why their connection to one of the prospects, Tyler Scott, could be big.
The Cincinnati Bearcat revealed that he has a connection to Patriots assistant wide receivers coach Ross Douglas dating back to his time in high school
“[The Patriots] actually texted me," Scott said on Friday.
"Ross Douglas … recruited me at Rutgers. So he hit me back up and was like, 'Hey man, I'm about to be at your pro day.' … So if he's going to be there, then I'm pretty sure the coordinators and other guys are going to be there. So I guess they're still interested."
In his junior season with the Bearcats, Scott led the team in receiving with 899 yards and nine touchdowns on 54 receptions.
Despite being undersized at 5-foot-11 and 177 pounds, Scott - who projects as a second-day pick - made a name for himself with his speed. While his speed would give the Patriots another vertical threat as they have with Tyquan Thorton, he can also help them in the quick game; essentially, the game plan should be, 'get him the ball and let him do the rest.'
