Patriots Draft Target Caleb Williams Believes He's Patrick Mahomes 2.0?

Potential No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, Caleb Williams, thinks he is just as talented as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Could Caleb Williams become the New England Patriots' next franchise quarterback?

With the No. 3 overall pick, it seems unlikely that Williams will be available when New England is put on the clock by league commissioner Roger Goodell. Although still, if his recent comparisons to current Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes turn out to be true, then it'd be hard to argue against them moving up to get him.

While it has become the new norm for the top quarterbacks in each draft class to draw comparisons to Mahomes and Josh Allen, Williams did little throughout his college career to stop the trend. But, even with the high bar set by Mahomes, Williams isn't shy about his talents.

"Everybody watches Patrick and sees all the cool things he can do," Williams said about the comparisons to Mahomes in a recent interview with CBS Sports. "I always said, even in high school - obviously, it's special - but I don't think there's anything that I can't do that he's doing out there."

Since emerging on the scene in college, Williams has amazed onlookers with his arm talent and ability to create off-script. In many ways, it is easy to see why Williams would draw comparisons to Mahomes when you compare their strengths.

Despite a down season for the Trojans, where they finished with a disappointing 8-5 record, Williams maintained his draft stock as the almost consensus-projected No. 1 pick as he threw for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just five interceptions in 12 games.

For a Patriots team that was plagued by a poor cast of playmakers and a makeshift offensive line, in addition to quarterback play, being able to select a prospect like Williams would be a dream selection.

Emphasis on "dream" as both the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders are expected to take quarterbacks with No. 1 and 2 picks, respectively, likely leaving the Patriots to choose whoever is left.
