Patriots Schedule Rumor: Germany Game Opponent Revealed?
The NFL will announce its full 2023 schedule on May 11. But details are beginning to emerge about some of the league's upcoming signature games, including the New England Patriots' visit to Germany this season in the NFL's International Series.
An article in the German newspaper Bild has apparently revealed the Patriots' opponent. The story claims that the Patriots will face the New Orleans Saints on either Nov. 12 or 19, which would be either Week 10 or 11 on the official league calendar.
The NFL's push to add Germany to its rotation of annual international regular season game sites (primarily featuring England and Mexico) is in full swing after Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers topped the Seattle Seahawks at Munich's Allianz Arena last fall.
This year's German slate, which will Bild says will also see the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs battle the Chicago Bears, is slated to be staged at Deutsche Bank Park (traditionally known as "The Waldstadion") in Frankfurt, the home of Bundesliga association football club Eintracht Frankfurt. Hardcore American football fans will recognize it as the home of the Frankfurt Galaxy, a long-running club from the World League of American Football (later known as NFL Europe).
New England's inclusion on the international docket was confirmed earlier this year. It will be its first game off American soil since 2017 (a 33-8 win over the Oakland Raiders in Mexico City) and its first European trip since another blowout victory against the St. Louis Rams five years prior.
The Saints would be back in Europe after partaking in last year's international festivities, as they fell to the Minnesota Vikings 28-25 in London. New Orleans is 2-1 in regular international games, previously topping San Diego (2008) and Miami (2017) in two previous London visits.
