John Cena Wants Patriots' Tom Brady For 'Buddy Comedy'?
If John Cena has anything to say about it, Tom Brady will make it to Hollywood before he's immortalized in Canton.
The Massachusets native and New England Patriots superfan has left his own mark on Tinseltown, having made the transition from athletics himself. The winner of 13 WWE Championships, Cena has played his success in the ring into starring roles in some of the most renowned pop culture franchises (i.e. "Fast and Furious," "Transformers," and the DC Universe), which has afforded him an opportunity with renowned actors like Vin Diesel, Margot Robbie, and Hailee Steinfeld.
But a visit to ESPN's "First Take" to promote his new comedy film "Ricky Stanicky" allowed Cena to reveal his dream co-star: legendary Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
"I sense that Tom's a very creative guy," Cena told hosts Ryan Clark and Christine Williamson. "He's not only an accomplished athlete, I sense maybe a buddy comedy on the horizon. So, Tom, if you’re listening, I’m available, and I take all calls, especially from Tom Brady.”
Brady has appeared in his share of high-profile pop culture projects, appearing as himself in films like "Entourage" and "Ted 2" as well as voiceover roles in the lauded animated sitcoms "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons."
More recently, Brady served as the titular character of Paramount Pictures' "80 for Brady," which saw a group of New Englanders engage in comedic hijinks in an effort to take in the Patriots' historic victory in Super Bowl LI.
Cena has often spoken about the inspirational impact that Brady has left upon him and jokingly compared their respective paths in their careers and personal lives: long before Brady transferred from the Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cena made the transition from New England to The Big Guava, leading him to jokingly remark that the quarterback was "stalking" him.

“Tom Brady gave a plot to the area of New England, and certainly helped develop what that team stands for and now certainly is striving to rebuild in the same vein he handles himself; with a certain sense of class, and certain sense of sportsmanship and a certain sense of competitive edge," Cena said of Brady in 2021, per Alfred Konuwa of Forbes. "He’s one of those rare individuals that regardless of what uniform he puts on, he’s interesting to watch, he’s always the focus of conversation and he earns the respect that he gets.”
