Patriots, NFL Respond to Kayshon Boutte Arrest
In the wake of rookie receiver Kayshon Boutte's arrest in Louisiana on charges related to illegal online gambling, the New England Patriots have issued a statement.
“The New England Patriots are aware that Kayshon Boutte is cooperating with Louisiana police regarding their investigation into an underage gambling charge while he was a student at Louisiana State University," said the Patriots via the spokesperson's statement. "I don’t anticipate that we will be providing any additional comments at this time.”
The NFL also provided a more abridged comment, ultimately with the same sentiment.
"We are aware of the matter but have no further comment at this time," said an NFL spokesperson through NFL Network.
Boutte allegedly created “a fraudulent online gaming account indicating that he was 21 years old or older,” according to WAFB, with “several hundred thousand dollars passing through it during its existence. The Iberia native did not turn 21 until May 2023, shortly after being drafted in the sixth round (No. 187 overall) by the Patriots.
Since word of his arrest became public, NOLA.com has provided additional details indicating that Boutte placed “over 8,900 wagers” from the account, including 17 on college football games, including six on LSU football all before he turned 21. Some of the wagers were allegedly placed while he was still a player at LSU in 2022. However, WAFB sources said Boutte never bet “against himself” and his actions in LSU games are not in question.
