Stolen QB: Los Angeles Chargers Sign New England Patriots Veteran
For a 3-11 team with a historically horrible offense and head coach rumored to be a lame duck, the New England Patriots sure have some attractive players.
At least in other teams' eyes, as for the second time in two weeks the Pats have lost a quarterback of their practice squad. Last week the Baltimore Ravens signed Malik Cunningham and on Monday the Los Angeles Chargers plucked Will Grier.
As of now, Bill Belichick and the Pats have only starter Bailey Zappe and former first-round draft pick Mac Jones at the quarterback position heading into their Christmas Eve night game at the Denver Broncos. New England did, however, give a tryout last week to Boston College alum E.J. Perry.
They signed Grier in August after he was cut by the Cowboys at the end of training camp, but he never appeared in a game for New England.
Will Malik Mishandling Haunt Patriots?
He has thrown only 52 passes in the NFL, all with the Carolina Panthers in 2019.
Playing in place of injured starter Justin Herbert, backup Easton Stick struggle mightily in last week's blowout loss to the Las Vegas Raiders that got head coach Brandon Staley fired. Grier was on the Cowboys' roster under Kellen Moore, who is now the offensive coordinator for the Chargers.
