'Duke Blue Colts!' Patriots' Matthew Judon Criticizes New Indianapolis Uniforms
Star New England Patriots pass rusher Matthew Judon believes the Indianapolis Colts should be playing on Saturday rather than Sunday.
That's not meant to be a comment on the Colts' play, though the Patriots own the advantage in the relatively-dormant former AFC East rivalry after a 26-3 decision in New England's favor last year. It was one of a dozen losses for Indianapolis, whose four-win season allowed them to select Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick of last spring's draft.
Judon's jab is purely from an aesthetic perspective: whereas most teams (including the Patriots) are celebrating the NFL relaxation of helmet shell rules with authentic throwback garb, the Colts have unveiled an alternate uniform labeled "Indiana Nights." It's a look that features a revamped version of the Colts' traditional blue home jersey paired with a black helmet for the first time in franchise history.Â
Responding to former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III's review on Twitter ("Black QB. Black Helmet. It makes sense."), Judon couldn't help but feel these Indiana Nights would be more comfortable in North Carolina.
"Duke blue colts [sic]," Judon declared, referencing the Durham, NC school, nicknamed the Blue Devils, renowned for its basketball programs. The gridiron Blue Devils have indeed paired their own normal threads with a black helmet.Â
Judon took Indianapolis blocking to school in last season's get together, accounting for three of nine sacks of then-Colts quarterback Sam Ehlinger in the offensively challenged victory (the two teams combining for 19 first downs).Â
Ironically, Indianapolis is currently scheduled for no night games this season. One of the closest things they'll have is the upcoming International Series showdown against the Patriots in Frankfurt in November, which will kick off at 3:30 p.m. local time.
