In this story:

The New England Patriots are on the road for the first time as they are set to meet the New York Jets inside MetLife Stadium, where kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (EST). While the Patriots have beaten the Jets in 14 straight matchups, Sunday's game feels more like a tossup than it has in recent memory.

The Patriots come into Sunday winless for the first time since 2001, while the Jets are 1-1 despite losing quarterback Aaron Rodgers just three plays into their season-opening win over the Buffalo Bills.

For the Patriots, this game is the closest thing to a "must-win," as they could've been handed this early in the season as they hope to get their playoff hopes back on track. An 0-2 start is far from the end for teams trying to make the postseason, as 31 teams have made the playoffs after that start, according to NFL.com, dating back to 1990.

The 2001 Patriots were one of those teams, as they would go on to win the Super Bowl, which proved to be the beginning of a nearly two-decade-long dynasty. However, the odds of making the postseason after starting winless after the first three games decrease drastically. Only six teams have made the playoffs after starting the season 0-3 since 1979.

As for the Jets, coming off a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the injury to Rodgers has left doubt about whether they can still live up to offseason expectations. With Zach Wilson again under center, Sunday will be a big test. The Jets are winless in the last four games versus the Patriots, with Wilson as their starting quarterback.
