Patriots vs. Eagles Injury Report: DeVante Parker Out?
FOXBORO — The first official injury and practice participation report of the season provided both questions and answers for the New England Patriots.
Although the Patriots enjoyed perfect attendance at Wednesday’s practice, they listed five players as limited participants, as they prepare to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 10 at Gillette Stadium.
Here is Wednesday afternoon’s full report, along with its implications for this Week 1 matchup:
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
DID NOT PARTICIPATE
No Players Listed.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
OT Trent Brown - Illness
CB Jack Jones — Hamstring
OL Michael Onwenu — Ankle
G Cole Strange — Knee
WR DeVante Parker — Knee
What It Means:
Three of the Patriots starting offensive linemen were limited participants on Wednesday: guards Cole Strange and Michael Onwenu and tackle Trent Brown. While the nature of Brown’s illness remains unclear, both Strange and Onwenu continue to monitor injuries which sidelined them for significant portions of training camp and the preseason. Should either player (or … gulp … both) remain hampered by their respective injuries, New England will have a difficult time finding ways to block the Eagles formidable defendive front including defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, defensive end Jordan Davis and rookie Jalen Carter.
Despite putting his legal woes behind him just one day earlier, cornerback Jack Jones was a limited participant with a hamstring injury. While it is always wise to monitor player health each day, coach Bill Belichick indicated that neither health, nor disciplinary action was likely to keep Jones off the field against the Eagles this weekend.
After returning to practice on Monday, receiver DeVante Parker once again carried a reduced workload on Wednesday. The veteran wideout missed a pair of practices last week due to a knee injury. Despite doing most of his work on the conditioning fields as of late, a source close to Patriots Country advised that Parker’s injury “was not thought to be serious” and should not “have long-term repercussions.”
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
CB Josh Jobe - Illness
What It Means:
Like their New England counterparts, the Philadelphia Eagles also enjoyed perfect attendance in their first session in preparation for their season-opener. In fact, only Eagles cornerback Josh Jobe was limited due to an undisclosed illness.
With Philadelphia heading into Sunday’s matchup fully healthy, New England will have its hands full in trying to contain a team which is equally potent on both sides of the ball.
