NFL Free Agency: Should Patriots Sign Giants Ex Kenny Golladay?

Kenny Golladay is looking to sign elsewhere after the New York Giants cut him in March. Could the New England Patriots be interested?

The New England Patriots have some question marks at the receiver position.

While JuJu Smith-Schuster is coming off an offseason knee injury and former second-round pick Tyquan Thornton is set to start the season on injured reserve, some receiver will have to step up to the plate.

Candidates for that role include DeVante Parker or rookies Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte, but it might be wise for the Pats to consider outside free agents, like former New York Giants receiver Kenny Golladay.

"The 29-year-old theoretically could help a receiving corps, but it's going to take a strong coaching staff and a team with a role in mind to tap into it. The 6'4", 213-pound receiver has both size and speed, which happens to be what the New England Patriots could use," Bleacher Report writes.

While Golladay struggled in his two seasons with the Giants, managing just six catches for 81 yards in 2022, he has showcased an ability to be a top receiver in the NFL. He logged over 1,000 yards receiving with the Detroit Lions in 2018 and 2019.

Golladay has been a free agent since the Giants cut him two years into his four-year, $72 million bust of a contract, but there's reason to believe that he could have some juice left in the system.

While the Patriots would probably prefer someone in-house to be the player to step up, there could be some reinforcements on the outside if the younger parts of the receiver corps fail to live up to expectations.

The Pats begin their season Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m.
