Could Jerod Mayo be getting the band back together?

With the number of active champions Super Bowl champions on their roster dwindling, the New England Patriots appear to be content packing their new coaching staff with blasts from the recent past.

A Matter of Trust: Patriots RB James White Expresses the Importance of Having Bill Belichick’s Confidence

Troy Brown and Adrian Klemm were on last year's staff, respectively leading the receivers and offensive line. Mayo, the five-year inside linebackers coach and part of the 2014-15 group that won Super Bowl XLIX (though he was injured and did not appear in the win over Seattle), was officially named the successor to departed head coach Bill Belichick on Friday and his staff will likely take shape over the coming weeks.

If the trend of resurrecting championship memories continues, one of the Patriots' most prominent Super Sunday heroes would apparently love to join the cause.

Former Foxborough running back James White is among the many New Englanders who approve of Mayo's hiring, offering congratulations on X shortly after the news broke and claiming that the former linebacker "definitely will be a great head coach." When a user asked White if he'd be willing to come back as Mayo's running backs coach, the rusher stayed mum, but cryptically left a pair of emojis deep in thought.

As it stands, Vinnie Sunseri continues to be listed as the Patriots' running backs coach. Sunseri has some gridiron hardware of his own, winning two national championships at Alabama before spending time on the Patriots' training camp and practice squad rosters.

In New England lore, White is best known for his performance in Super Bowl LI, one that saw him set a championship record with 14 receptions. He was also responsible for 20 of the 31 points the Patriots were required to earn to erase a 28-3 deficit against the Atlanta Falcons, which included the game-sealing touchdown in overtime.
