Super Bowl Slap: Patriots Given Worst Odds in AFC East of Winning LVIII
While the New England Patriots are seemingly taking steps to right their offensive ship this offseason, the Las Vegas oddsmakers aren't impressed.
Despite the hiring of new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien, the vote of confidence in quarterback Mac Jones from owner Robert Kraft and the retaining of key defensive coach Jerod Mayo, the Pats are predicted to further regress in 2023. So much so that their odds of winning Super Bowl LVIII are the worst in the AFC East and among the long-shots in the entire NFL.
Fresh off their scintillating victory over the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday in Arizona, the Kansas City Chiefs have been installed as the early favorites to win next year's Super Bowl to be played Feb. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium.
The Chiefs have 6-1 odds, followed by two more AFC teams in the Cincinnati Bengals (8.5-1) and Buffalo Bills (9-1). The Eagles remain the NFC favorites at 9-1.
A slap in the face to the Patriots is that not only are the Miami Dolphins ahead of them at 30-1, but also the New York Jets at 25-1. New England has beaten the Jets 14 consecutive times.
Despite missing last season's playoffs by only game in an 8-9 finish, the 2023 Pats come in at a whopping 50-1. Only eight teams have worse odds, including Tom Brady's old team (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 80-1) and the two biggest longshots - the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans, both at 250-1.
