Brady Reacts To Patriots Mayo Hiring

Legendary quarterback Tom Brady gives a ringing endorsement of new coach Jerod Mayo to New England Patriots fans.
In this story:

What are the New England Patriots getting in their new coach, Jerod Mayo?

Obviously, a "rookie" coach who will look to begin the process of what is looking like a rebuild this offseason. But in the words of Mayo's former teammate and legendary quarterback, Tom Brady, the Patriots are getting a "great leader."

"Jerod was a great leader, a great captain, a great friend," Brady said in a recent interview on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show. "I think he had a tremendous amount of success in football, and then had success in other parts of his life, retired, and then him coming back into coaching; I think it's great for the NFL and certainly great for the Patriots."

It is the ultimate endorsement for Mayo from Brady, as the Patriots further turn the page on a legendary 24 years with now former coach Bill Belichick leading the way.

The ending of Belichick's time in New England didn't go as planned, as the Patriots failed to make the postseason in three of the four seasons following Brady's departure. It seems like the change in leadership ultimately came at the right time for the Patriots.

After nearly 20 years of being on top of the NFL mountain, winning six Super Bowls in that time, the Patriots are now undoubtedly in need of a reset.

The once star-studded roster has decayed in recent years, as low-spending and poor drafting has been a thorn in the Patriots' side. Both have contributed to New England's inability to adapt offensively and find their next franchise quarterback in the post-Brady era.

"He's got a great understanding of how things need to be done," Brady said. "I think Jerod does an incredible job relating to everybody in the locker room, all the coaches and I think he'll do a great job."

The Patriots will hope they don't suffer the same fate as many other franchises have when replacing a legendary coach.
