Media Insider: Patriots Legend Tom Brady Has Only '49 Percent' Chance of Being Fox Voice
The stand-off between Fox and The GOAT continues.
New York Post sports media reporter Andrew Marchand says it's almost 50/50 that former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady reneges on the $375 million in place for him to become Fox Sports' lead NFL game analyst. In the latest edition of "The Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast," Marchand estimates the chance of Brady announcing a game for the network at only "49 percent,"
Brady's proposed deal with Fox, which would make him the highest-paid sports commentator in history, has lingered in his post-NFL career since his first retirement after the 2021-22 season. With a sense of finality around his latest departure, there's been a lot of debate over whether he actually enters a Fox booth and Marchand is, for the time being, more convinced that it won't happen.
"It was at 51 percent that he’s going to do it to 49 percent, with the reasoning it’s so much money he’ll try it for a year,” Marchand hypothesized to co-host John Ourand. “However, I’ve talked to a couple people recently close to Brady and I kind of feel like I’m going more 49 percent chance he does it, 51 percent chance he doesn’t. I don’t think he wants travel that much, obviously he’s going to go private."
Leave it to Brady to generate "will he or won't he" drama even with his playing days seemingly over.
His Fox deal generated controversy from the start. Many observers were skeptical about Brady, who has no prior broadcasting experience, getting a historic payday without spending a day in the booth. Positive reviews for Fox's newly-minted lead booth analyst Greg Olsen also might've played a role in Brady's delays. Some speculated he would play a role in Fox's coverage of Super Bowl LVII, but these did not materialize. Brady has since planned to delay his supposed entry by a year.
There have even been rumors that Brady is pondering taking a stab at stand-up comedy.
