Ex New England Patriots QB Tom Brady Joke: 35 Points 'Next Week'!

After a "Current vs. Former Player" Pro Bowl format was proposed, New England Patriots legend Tom Brady predicted he could quarterback a team that would score immediately scored 35 points.
In this story:

The 2023 New England Patriots are a black hole for all things considered fun about football. The “Patriot Way” has deteriorated into perhaps the league’s least exciting offense, making scoring points seem like a thing of the past.

Quarterbacks Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe have combined to lead New England to five consecutive losses, each coming in increasingly embarrassing fashion. On Sunday, the Patriots orchestrated their magnum opus—a 6-0 to the Los Angeles Chargers.

New England sits at 2-10, with little in the form of quarterback or receiver pizzazz Fans were rudely reminded of that when Tom Brady took to social media on Tuesday morning. Quoting a post in which former Patriots receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson proposed a “Current vs. Former Player” Pro Bowl, Brady told the football world he’s still got it.

“With today’s rules?” Brady posted on Twitter. “Give me Chad and Randy [Moss] on the outside and we’re putting up 35 next week.”

It goes without saying that five touchdowns would be more than any showing from New England this season. The Patriots have scored 30 total points in their last four contests. They rank 28th in yards per game and 30th in expected points added per play. Their 12.3 points per game is last in all of football.

Meanwhile, Brady is just a season removed from quarterbacking in the NFL, where he left off playing at a higher level than any New England passer has reached this year. In 2022, he threw for 4,694 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. His 90.7 passer rating and 54.6 quarterback rating are significantly ahead of Jones’ 2023 marks of 77 and 36.5, respectively.

Zappe Reveals Patriots Starting QB vs. Steelers?

At this point, remembering his deep strikes to Moss may be the most clear visual of an explosive play.

Unfortunately for Patriots fans, relief isn’t coming in the form of a time machine or another unretirement. New England will look to scrape together wins down the home stretch and salvage a lost season. That starts on Thursday when the Patriots visit the Pittsburgh Steelers.
