Tyreek Urges Fans to Boo Patriots' 'Sorry' Mac Jones
"A communications disruption could mean only one thing: invasion."
The New England Patriots could be facing the same realization as Naboo royalty did at the onset of "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" if Tyreek Hill's vision comes true on Sunday night: with his Miami Dolphins due for a prime time visit to Gillette Stadium (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC), Hill is hoping that Phins fans show up in droves in the opening of 2023 AFC East play for each side.
For those Dolphins supporters brave enough to make the trip out to Foxborough on Sunday night, Hill had a special request, instructing his invasion force to target New England quarterback Mac Jones.
"If you guys come out, be loud and just boo the other team. Call Mac Jones sorry, please," Hill said in video from the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s Chris Perkins. "That would be great.”
Hill was inspired by the excess aquamarine seated at SoFi Stadium last weekend, its wearers treated to a thrilling 36-34 victory for the Dolphins over the hosting Los Angeles Chargers. Such visitors were treated to an offensive outburst to the tune of 466 yards from the arm of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, 215 of which landed in Hill's hands via 11 completions.
For what it's worth, Jones has hardly been "sorry" against the Dolphins, at least from a statistical standpoint: while the Patriots have fallen in three of the four Jones-led meetings to date, he has posted a 95.5 passer rating in that quartet, throwing five touchdowns against two interceptions.
With Miami (1-0) on the road in each of the first two weeks of the season, Hill hopes that Dolphins fans will resume their regularly scheduled duties when the team makes its Hard Rock Stadium debut in Week 3 against Denver.
"There were a lot of ‘Fin fans on our side of the stadium. ‘Fin fans we need that — I’m looking at every camera,” Hill said. “We need that each and every week, every home game. I’m telling you, that juice each and every play."
Sunday's prime time closer will have a significant impact on the early AFC East environment: Miami leads the quartet alongside the New York Jets but is widely viewed as the top dog with Gang Green losing starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the season after he tore his Achilles during Monday's win over the Buffalo Bills. With the Jets facing the equally perfect Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo trying to get back on track against the Las Vegas Raiders, both early separation and narrowing are on the line come Sunday.
