The New England Patriots welcome the Miami Dolphins into Gillette Stadium on Sunday as they attempt to put behind them the Week 1 25-20 loss to the Eagles. Miami's opener went differently, with a 36-34 win over the Chargers, in a game where Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for 466 yards and three touchdowns.

Tagovailoa has had immediate success against the Patriots since joining the league as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The former Alabama signal caller is 4-0 to start his career against New England coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

New England beat Miami at the end of last season, but Teddy Bridgewater was the Dolphins' quarterback as Tua was out with an injury.

Tagovailao, however, isn't taking his success for granted.

“Coach Belichick has been coaching in this league for way longer than I think I’ve been alive. So he knows exactly what he’s looking at when he coaches his guys,” Tagovailoa said.

“Nothing new under the sun for that guy. So we’ve got to come out, we’ve got to be prepared. We understand that that’s a physical team and they’re going to make us earn everything that we can.”

The Patriots' defense found success in Week 1 against a similar quarterback, holding quarterback Jalen Hurts to just one offensive touchdown in the loss.

But the Miami offense might cause different fits for the New England defense. The Dolphins boast the league's top-ranked offense after 536 yards gained against the Chargers, the most for a team in a Week 1 game since Baltimore had 643 in 2019.

The Patriots will be pulling out all the stops in an attempt to avoid the team's first 0-2 start since 2001.
