FOXBORO — The New England Patriots are beginning to shake a sluggish start to show signs of life in their Week 9 matchup with the Washington Commanders at Gillette Stadium.

After falling down 10-0 with just over 12 minutes in the second quarter, the Pats defense earned a desperately-needed turnover to start their first scoring drive of the game.

Just one drive removed from his nine-yard touchdown run, Commanders running back Brian Robinson fumbled on an eight-yard run attempt. Robinson’s mishap was forced by linebacker Jahlani Tavai and recovered by tackle Davon Godchaux at the Commanders 25 yard-line.

Pats quarterback Mac Jones needed only three plays to put the team on the board, connecting with tight end Hunter Henry on a 14-yard touchdown.

The Pats enter this matchup hoping to earn their third victory of the season, following their 31-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins last week. In kind, the Commanders are also hoping to rid themselves of their recent woes and a 38-31 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8.

Washington is one of 10 teams that New England is undefeated against at home at Gillette Stadium in regular season play with a 2-0 record. The Patriots had four straight wins against the Commanders heading into Week 9.

Despite a notable about of pregame hype to the contrary, receiver Kayshon Boutte was once again listed as inactive for this matchup — despite the injuries to receivers Kendrick Bourne and DeVante Parker. Conversely, second-year speedster Tyquan Thornton is playing against Washington. After battling both ankle and knee injuries throughout the week, starting left tackle Trent Brown did not suit up, leaving reserve tackle Conor McDermott to get the start in his stead.
