New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is the latest star athlete to discuss his diet and the way it has changed his body.

The 2015 MVP did an interview with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) recently. During the interview, Newton discussed his experience with the Vegan diet, which he has been doing since February of 2019, per his own vlog. The Vegan diet stems from Veganism, which is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products.

"I've seen such a remarkable change in the way my body responds to the food that I eat," Newton said.

While Newton's diet has his body reacting differently to the food he eats, what the diet hasn't seemed to have helped is his ability to recover from injury.

Last season, Newton played two games and was eventually placed on injured reserve in Nov. 5. While Newton has had a fair share of injuries that he has had to miss time because of, his latest injury had some nutritionist telling The Charlotte Observer last year that Newton's diet is to blame

“Go back to 2015 Cam, badass Cam. He was a pescatarian,” said Chris Howard, a certified nutritionist and strength and conditioning coach from Waxhaw. “Salmon, shrimp, you get a lot of good fats and complete proteins. In fact, (fish) is one of the best protein sources there is.

“Now you take away the most valuable part of that (diet), and ... there’s just no way around it: He can’t recover as well with less nutrients, with less calories and with less muscle mass. It’s just not going to happen.”

Newton can prove them wrong in 2020. If he is able to stay healthy, win the starting job and perform at a high level, his diet won't matter in 2021. Teams will still try to sign him, and Newton has the opportunity to earn a multi-year deal. New England could even be a part of that sweepstakes.
