Patriots BREAKING: DeAndre Hopkins Commits to Free Agent Visit - Report
Bill Belichick is trying to low-key this. Other members of the New England Patriots, past and present, are doing the opposite, complete with efforts to "recruit'' free agent receiver DeAndre Hopkins to Foxboro.
And somewhere in between is an actual fact: Is "D-Hop'' actually planning a visit? Early Tuesday morning comes confirmation from NFL Network that the schedule is seemingly locked in, with Ian Rapoport reporting, "After a very positive visit in Tennessee, FA WR DeAndre Hopkins visits the Patriots on Wednesday and Thursday.
So now coach Belichick - who said on Monday, "We’re working through some things'' - can get to work on face-to-face recruiting. And he surely has the details, even though he also growled, "I'm not a travel agent,'' when asked by the media for some of those details.
So now it is to happen, a Hopkins visit to New England to follow his stay with the Titans. We know that Belichick and the Patriots have obviously already "worked through some things'' in terms of "D-Hop's'' fit into an offense led by new coordinator Bill O'Brien, who once upon a time was both Hopkins' Houston Texans coach ... and the guy who traded him to Arizona.
We know that the locker room supports the addition and we work on the assumption that the front office has already reached a comfort level with what Hopkins will be asking for contractually, which we will "educated guess'' to be in the range of $20 million APY.
