Patriots BREAKING: Mac Jones Traded To Jaguars; Change at QB - For 6th-Round Pick

Patriots BREAKING: Mac Jones Traded To Jacksonville Jaguars; New England Change at Quarterback ... For Just a Sixth-Round Draft Pick.

Mac Jones recently said he'd like to "run it back'' with the New England Patriots. But instead, he's being run off to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jones, the former first-round pick and rookie Pro Bowler, is done with the Patriots ... and according to ESPN, the once-promising young quarterback might be netting New England only a sixth-round pick.

So Jones, despite wanting to earn his spot back in New England under new coach Jerod Mayo, is now going to serve as a backup to Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville.

Jones was pictured in workout gear at Mayo's introductory press conference, which, as reported by Greg Bedard, apparently drew ire from his teammates who said he cleaned out his locker at season's end. ... the implication being that Mac was a poser.

Patriots 'Not Afraid' to Draft Michigan Quarterback J.J. McCarthy?

Mayo's recent hints of wanting to take a quarterback with the Patriots' No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft suggested that this sort of a move was coming.

Even if the Patriots decided to give Jones another year here, it'd likely have been as the backup to whoever they bring into the quarterback room. And maybe that was too messy.

If the Patriots want to sign a veteran in free agency, they can chase Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield or others. If they want to start over? The Patriots just draft a rookie after having cut their losses by trading Jones away.
