RGIII: 'Coaching Malpractice!' Bill Belichick To Blame for Mac Jones' New England Patriots Failure

The New England Patriots are trying to avoid pointing fingers as it relates to an embarrassing 38-3 loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys - and more specifically, about who is to blame.

But blame-laying talk of "Coach Bill Belichick vs. Quarterback Mac Jones'' is inevitable ... and ESPN is here to serve, with former NFL QB Robert Griffin III accusing the legendary Belichick of "coaching malpractice.''

"Bill Belichick's one of the greatest coaches we've ever seen,'' Griffin said this week on "Get Up" on ESPN. "He's arguably the greatest coach of all time in NFL history, but he really overthought this, and it's hurt Mac Jones permanently ... That is, to me, the epitome of coaching malpractice.''

The specific "that'' in the view of RGIII? The Musical Chairs of offensive coordinators in Foxboro following the departure of Josh McDaniels.

"Mac Jones is not a creator, but they're asking him to create,'' Griffin said. "So that starts with the scheme. ... In 2021, had the No. 6 offense in the NFL. Who was his coordinator? Josh McDaniels, one of the best ... we've ever seen in this league.

"Now you move forward to this year, and they have one of the worst offenses in the league. ... For me, this comes down to coaching.''

Griffin also pointed out that last year Belichick made a mistake with Jones by "giving him a defensive coordinator (Matt Patricia) and special-teams coordinator (Joe Judge) as his offensive coordinator, and now he's on his third coordinator in three years in the NFL.''

This year, Belichick brought in offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien from Alabama - Jones' old school - in attempt to repair all of this. But the Patriots are 1-3. Jones isn't fixed; he's coming off a game in which he was benched. And RGIII has joined the chorus of those who want Belichick to take the blame ... or who even want Belichick fired.
