Report: Troy Brown expected to help Patriots' coaching staff in training camp
After assisting the New England Patriots' coaching staff during spring practices, former Patriots wide receiver Troy Brown is expected to do the same during training camp, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
"Troy Brown is expected to continue lending a helping hand to the Patriots' coaching staff through the early part of training camp -- just as he did in the spring," Reiss wrote in an ESPN story on Sunday. "Whether that leads to an official role in the future is to be determined, but the bottom line is that having the humble Patriots Hall of Famer on hand to share his wisdom with first-round pick N'Keal Harry and others is a coup for Belichick -- however long it lasts. Another benefit is that it creates a buffer of sorts as the staff navigates an interesting situation with special teams coach Joe Judge also picking up the role of receivers coach, which of course, was also Brown's primary position."
Having Brown in training camp will not only be a learning experience for N'Keal Harry and others, but it will also not spread the coaching staff so thin, specifically Joe Judge, who is also the special team's coach. The wideouts can now get coaching while special teams is working on their craft.
If Brown continues to prove he can improve a position group that has a lot of potential, he may find himself with an official coaching position before the regular season is underway.
