Patriots OT Marcus Bryant Leaves Game With Ankle Injury: What We Know Right Now

In this story:
FOXBORO --- The New England Patriots will have to go the rest of their preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles without an offensive starter.
Starting right tackle Marcus Bryant went down on the team's first drive of the game and was looked at by members of the Patriots' medical staff.
Head coach Mike Vrabel eventually joined him on the field before Bryant was helped off by trainers.
Here's What We Know Right Now:
He was walking gingerly off the field, and took a while before getting back to the sideline. Rookie offensive tackle Dametrious Crownover came in to replace him. Bryant would head to the blue medical tent.
Soon after, the Patriots announced that Bryant would be out for the remainer of the game with an ankle injury. Behind him on the depth chart, Crownover and Lorenz Metz are the top backups. Caleb Lomu started the game at left tackle, and it's unlikely we see Will Campbell or Morgan Moses at all tonight.
At that point, the Patriots had just 30 yards of offense, all of them coming from running back Lan Larison. He accounted for a 28-yard catch-and-run on a screen, before getting blown up on back-to-back 1-yard carries.

After the game, Vrabel was asked about Bryant's status.
"I do think he just got rolled up on," he said following the team's 24-21 win. "I think it will be a lower leg injury, but I do not know to what extent. That is kind of what happens sometimes in those inside plays. So we will have to just take a look and see where he is at, but I will not know anything right now."
He wasn't the first player to leave the game due to injury. On the opening kickoff, Eagles running back Ja'Quinden Jackson had to leave the field in an ambulance after being motionless on the field for several minutes. He was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, the Eagles announced.
Bryant Was Trending Up In Training Camp

One of the biggest competitions on this roster heading into the summer was who would be the top backups at offensive tackle. Bryant, who was drafted in the seventh round last season and didn't see much time on the field, quickly shot up the ranks to be in that conversation.
He's gotten reps on both the left and right side, and when Campbell was out for a practice, Bryant worked with the starting offense protecting Drake Maye's blindside.
"Being able to come in and think like a starter," Bryant told reporters in camp about his mindset this year. "Growing up and maturing is part of the game. I feel like I took another step this year."
He continued to rep on both sides with the second-string offense, but primarily got his biggest body of work on the left side. He and Lomu switched sides for this game, something they've done in stints in camp.
Bryant is the third Patriots offensive lineman to leave a preseason game this summer, joining center Ben Brown and guard Andrew Rupcich, who both left last week's tie with the Indianapolis Colts with lower-body injuries.
