Corey Lemonier gains leverage on field and with top programs
The reason so many programs are high on Hialeah (Fla.) defensive end Corey Lemonier is because of his ability to gain leverage against blockers.
"I just need to keep down, almost pointing my shoulders to the ground when I get off the line," the 6-foot-5, 230-pound senior said. "I don't need to use my hands as much because I'm low and the guy I'm going up against can't stop me as easily."
Speed is a large part of his game. He ran a 4.7 40 at the University of Florida last July has offers from nearly every SEC program, among others.
Lemonier took his first visit to Florida State in early September to see the Seminoles play Miami. Despite the 38-34 loss, he came away impressed with the Seminoles.
"Overall, it was really awesome," he said. "The atmosphere, the fans -- it was a big game so it was great to see."
His time on campus was routine, including tours and interaction with the team, capped off with a one-on-one meeting with Bobby Bowden. "I was impressed with his memory," said Lemonier. "He was telling me about some game back in 1969 and he remembered the school."
Of his four remaining visits, Lemonier said that he will be taking trips to Auburn and Illinois. Tennessee, Ole Miss -- whose staff visited his school in mid-September -- and New Mexico are in the mix for the remaining visits. He'll also take unofficial trips to Miami and possibly a return to The Swamp.
The Under Armour All-American says that of all the schools offering him, Tennessee and Florida State are the ones showing the most love, but he doesn't have any leaders yet or any timetable for a decision.
"Right now I want to focus on my high school season before I figure anything else out," Lemonier said. "I want to make the right decision and I am in no rush to do that."
