Manny's future as a DH near?

Manny Ramirez can still hit, but the AL may make more sense. Ramirez was the designated hitter in all three games [in Boston], likely a sign of things to come if he continues his career next season. Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti has said that playing left field every day in the National League takes its toll on Ramirez. There's no doubt he still can hit, and probably will be able to for a couple of more seasons at least. The question is would he accept a fraction of the $20 million he currently earns? ... Ramirez may enjoy the DH role if he pursues it. Entering last night's game, in 298 career games as a DH he was batting .313 with a .413 OBP and .574 slugging percentage with 70 homers and 228 RBIs. Packers try 305-pound Jenkins at LB

Cullen Jenkins, who last year suggested Dom Capers wasn't using Green Bay's best playmakers on defense, will be hard to miss if he's turned loose at linebacker. [During] the first day of the mandatory minicamp on Monday, Capers unveiled a potentially new playmaking role for Jenkins. The defensive end took several snaps at left outside linebacker. That meant the 6-foot-2, 305-pound Jenkins was roaming around in a two-point stance instead of his usual position with his hand on the ground. "I always feel like I can pass rush, it's just a matter of what they ask me to do on particular plays," Jenkins said. "You never know what you're actually going to carry into the season, but we're experimenting with different things. It's pretty cool to be (standing) up, actually." (Green Bay Press-Gazette)Comment

Celts' Rivers open to sabbatical

Doc Rivers knows how to make a headline, telling a Boston radio station Monday he was leaning in one direction but not yet ready to decide. "It's still very difficult to get through Game 7, let alone talk about your future to be honest. I'm not going to say which way I'm leaning, and I am one way, but I can look you in the eye and say I've not made a decision. We've only had a small conversation and we're going to do that in the next week or so." Asked about the idea of a sabbatical, Rivers said it's something that crossed his mind in recent years.
