Raiders' Release Garoppolo

In a move everyone knew was coming, the Las Vegas Raiders have officially released quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

'The Las Vegas Raiders made it official on Wednesday by releasing quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

The much-maligned quarterback is incredibly talented, but his lack of ability to stay healthy and the team's genuine struggles under former Coach Josh McDaniels destined his time in the desert to be an unsuccessful venture for both the team and the player.

Garoppolo said in March of 2023, when asked if he saw himself as the long-term starter for the Raiders: "I'm coming in with the mindset that I need to earn everything. I don't want to be given any: 'You're the franchise guy,' or whatever. I want to come in and earn it. I think that'll come through hard work, working with the teammates, being at the facility. All those little things will play a role, but I don't want to be given anything. I want to earn it."

Additionally, he said that he wanted to lead the Raiders back to consistent success

“I'm confident," Garoppolo said. "I also know that it's a very tough road and you never want to go into it and set expectations too high. You want to go in and know that you're going to work hard, enjoy the process, and I truly believe that that's what gets you to February at the end of the year. If you try to skip through the process and take shortcuts, you're not making the playoffs. That's just the reality of this league and I'm a firm believer in that. So, I think if we put in the work, do all the things the right way and get the right people in here, that's a good start.”

Ever a professional and gentleman, Garoppolo leaves the desert respected.

In addition, as previously reported, the Raiders also released quarterback Brian Hoyer, wide receiver Hunter Renfrow and defensive tackle Jerry Tillery on Wednesday.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
