The Las Vegas Raiders are entering the 2024-25 NFL regular season with a talented linebacker group with players like Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo.

The Silver and Black also have a young linebacker who is entering his second season with the team, and that linebacker is Amari Burney.

Burney was selected 203rd overall by the Raiders in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. He finished his rookie season playing seven games and ended with 15 total tackles and ten solo tackles.

According to Pro Football Focus, Burney finished his rookie season with a 53.9 overall grade, a 58.1 run defense grade, a 48.8 pass rush grade, and a 55.2 coverage grade.

In the most recent "Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast," our Hondo Carpenter Sr. had the chance to express his thoughts on the entire Raiders linebacker room, including second-year player Burney.

"You get to a guy like Amari Burney," Carpenter said. This is a guy the Raiders picked up last year; he played in seven games and started in one. This kid showed some flashes now. He showed some flashes. He is a young man transitioning from one position to a linebacker. But he's fast, he's got a lot of speed, and he's got to learn that speed at linebacker."

"A lot of linebackers don't have Amari Burney's speed." Carpenter continued. "It's an adjustment and then to be asked to make that adjustment at the National Football League, the highest level of football; I mean, the National Football League is not where guys go to learn; it's where guys go to perform."

"I like Burney. He's trying to adjust his speed to a new position and learn a new position, and you can see what they liked in him. Now the question is, can he continue the transformation process? I think he's got a good shot at making the roster, but I don't think it's 100%."

It will be interesting to see how Burney will compete this offseason in the Raiders' linebacker room as he enters his sophomore season.
