Anthony Brown Has Flown Under the Radar Amidst QB Talk
The Las Vegas Raiders' quarterback room has accumulated more outside attention than any other unit.
While Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce has made it known that any of the team's quarterbacks will have to beat out Aidan O'Connell for the starting job, many fans still hope the team takes a quarterback in the first round of next month's draft.
For now, though, the buzz surrounds O'Connell and new Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew. But there is another quarterback on the roster who has been overlooked -- Anthony Brown.
The Raiders signed Brown to a reserve/future contract in January, and while he is going to have to first earn a spot on the team, he does have experience in the league.
"He's [Brown] played and started in this league," Pierce said at the NFL Owners' Meetings on Monday. "He's done well. I mean, extremely athletic.
"I remember we brought him in at the end of the season last year -- Champ [Kelly] and myself -- and he did a hell of a job in the workout. Competitor, and again, it's another guy ... there's three in the room. But he gives you a different dynamic.
"Very mobile, very athletic, good out of the pocket, and a good poise about him."
Signed by the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2022, Brown played two games for the club in the 2022 season, making one start in Baltimore's final game of the regular season.
Brown has not played in a regular season game since, as the Ravens released him back in early September.
While Las Vegas added Brown as merely a reserve/future signee, the Raiders have proven, especially in recent years, that they can develop players who just need that one opportunity to prove themselves.
You can watch Pierce's entire press conference from Monday here.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
