Luke Masterson Could be a Factor in Raiders' LB Room
The Las Vegas Raiders have one of the NFL's youngest and most developed linebacker rooms.
One of the young linebackers in that room is Luke Masterson, who is entering his third NFL season.
In his second season with the Raiders, Masterson finished with 27 combined tackles (17 solo) in 16 games.
Masterson received an 86.9 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, an 88.7 run defense grade, a 54.1 pass-rush grade and a 76.2 coverage grade.
In two seasons as a linebacker, Masterson has played in 33 games and has 86 total tackles, 47 solo tackles, four tackles for loss and one quarterback hit.
Masterson usually makes his presence known on the Raiders' special teams unit. However, his best game last season came in Week 7 against the Chicago Bears, when he finished with five total tackles and three solo tackles in the Raiders' 30- 12 loss.
In a recent "Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast," our Hondo Carpenter Sr. broke down the Raiders' linebacker room, including third-year linebacker Masterson.
"I love this kid," Carpenter said. "For the last two years, he has played on special teams. He's tough as nails, knows his stuff, and knows the playbook backward, forwards, and behind.
"He has shown some of that leadership help when people get in position and needs to be a little more vocal. He's smart, and he's also extremely humble." Carpenter continued. Humble doesn't mean you don't speak, and that's something I'm really Luke for. That kid is tough, a great kid, and really laid-back. When I say laid-back, when I say laid-back, he's not full of himself.
"He's a hard worker, and he is loved in the locker room. You won't find a person, a fan, a teammate, or whatever, who has had a bad interaction with him other than an opposing player. He hits hard, and he epitomizes toughness. Luke Masterson in year two, that's a pup that I think could be a dawg."
It will be exciting to see how Masterson will compete in this offseason as he enters his third season.
The Raiders signed Masterson as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
